In the library looking for craft books in the main section of the library with the girls. The baby, who was extremely tired, whined and fussed. The library cop came up and told me I had to keep Littlest quiet, so I picked her up and started to nurse her. Then I walked to another section passing the police officer and he gave me a look and then said "Ma'm" and I went over to him sensing what he was thinking and I had a 'go ahead, challenge me' look on my face and he sighed, visibly annoyed and simply asked "Are you leaving now?"
"No, not yet, why?" I replied flippantly, arching my eyebrows and daring him with my expression.
Again, he was annoyed and chose not to explain his reason for calling me over as I walked away I muttered "Probably a good idea."
As I was waiting at the help desk I remembered that I had some of my business cards with me that have Florida's breastfeeding law written on them, so I pulled one out vacillating because I wanted to let him know I knew what was up yet I would be telling him exactly who I was. In the end I had to do something, as a mom who knows the law I have to help protect women who don't. On the way to the library section I had been looking for I laid the card down in front of him, law side up, he looked down and said he knew and I told him "Just wanted to make sure" then I walked away my heart thudding in my chest, adrenaline pumping through my body.
I wanted to stay at the library longer, settle in a reading chair and nurse the baby, but kids don't always agree with your silent protests and Middlest had been wanting to leave for some time so I found the books I wanted and left, being sure not to drive by the cop who was in his car having come outside while we were heading to check out.
